　メゾチントは、版上一面にびっしりつけたキズを削って白い部分を作ってゆく技法ですが、 その準備段階で、単純計算してみると私の場合１インチ四方あたり約30万個の傷を刻んでいるようです。
　印刷やCGにおいてドットの数はそのまま、色の点の大きさを変えることで濃淡を出すのと同様に、 この１インチ四方当たり30万個の微細なキズ一つ一つを慎重に削って、インクの載る面積を小さくすることで光を表現する。
　こんな、考えてみればなんとも気の遠くなるような制作をして、もう18年にもなります。

Mezzotint is a technique in which the entire surface of a plate is densely covered with countless tiny burrs,
and the white areas are created by carefully scraping them away.
In my case, a simple calculation suggests that I engrave roughly 300,000 marks per square inch during the preparation stage.
Just as in printing or computer graphics, where tonal gradation is achieved not by changing the number of dots but by varying their size, I work by meticulously scraping away each of these 300,000 minute marks within a single square inch,
reducing the area that holds ink to express light.
When I think about it, this process is almost unimaginably painstaking, and I have been devoted to it for 18 years now.
