　ここ数年、年齢を重ねたためか、午前3時頃に目覚めるようになり、それを機に制作を朝型に切り替えました。意識が冴えるまで、住まいがある向島の対岸にあたる薄暗い浅草を眺めています。向島の由来は、「浅草から見て、隅田川の向こうの島」という意味で呼ばれるようになったと聞きます。もし、立ち位置が異なっていたらどんな地名になっていたのだろうか、とふと思いを巡らせます。未だに解決しない隣国同士の紛争は、「対岸の火事」と傍観するだけではいられない問題です。私にできることと言えば、首相官邸や都民の声の窓口サイトに意見のメールを送ることくらいですが、そうした行動をとる私がここにいます。
　私の制作方法は、あらかじめ完成予想図を用意しているわけではありません。描いては壊し、描くという繰り返しの中で、微かな鉱脈が見え隠れすることがあるため、描き続けているのでしょう。色彩や形、構図や奥行き、内と外といった絵画の基本要素に寄り添い、原初的な衝動を画布に定着させることを試みています。そして、この個人的な探究行為が、結果として社会と繋がり、何らかの対話を生み出すことを願っています。

- The City on the Opposite Bank -
In recent years, perhaps due to aging, I've started waking up around 3 a.m. and have since shifted my creative process to the morning. Before my mind fully clears, I gaze across the dim Asakusa, which lies on the opposite bank of Mukojima, where I live.I've heard that the name "Mukojima" originated from the meaning, "the island across the Sumida River, when viewed from Asakusa." I sometimes wonder what the name of this place would have been if the perspective had been different.The conflicts between neighboring countries that remain unresolved are issues that we cannot simply stand by and view as "a fire on the opposite bank." The most I can do is send emails with my opinions to the Prime Minister's Official Residence and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Voice of the People" website, but here I am, taking those actions.
My method of creation does not involve preparing a complete finished sketch in advance. I believe I continue to draw because faint lodes occasionally appear and disappear within the cycle of drawing, destroying, and drawing again. I attempt to adhere to the fundamental elements of painting―color, form, composition, depth, and the concepts of inside and outside―and to fix my primal impulses onto the canvas. It is my hope that this personal act of exploration will ultimately connect with society and generate some form of dialogue.
